“What a warm welcome I received – it was great to be among friendly choir members. The choice of music is interesting and challenging in a most enjoyable way.”Maryan Balkwill, Soprano
Normally we invite people to apply for membership (including joining our young singers’ bursary scheme) by attending open rehearsals and auditioning at the start of each term. However, due to the Covid-19 crisis we are currently unable to rehearse together or hold auditions. In the meantime, therefore, please contact the Membership Secretary to register your interest in joining us, and we will let you know when vacancies are once again available. As soon as the situation permits, we will invite you to attend an open rehearsal and to audition.
Our rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings during term time from 8.00 to 9.45pm at St Peter’s Church, Black Lion Lane, W6 9BE on the borders of Hammersmith and Chiswick (Stamford Brook or Ravenscourt Park tubes). Open rehearsals and auditions for membership usually take place in the first two weeks of each term although other times would be considered, particularly given the current situation. Your audition would take place at the end of either your first or second rehearsal, giving you the chance to meet and sing with the choir.
If you wish to proceed, you would then sing privately to Richard Bannan, our Musical Director. The process is relaxed and friendly. Richard is as interested in finding out what you may be able to do in the future as hearing what you can do now. Ideally bring a short piece you know well (either a solo or a choral extract is fine); you will then be taken through a few exercises to assess your vocal range, sight-reading and ear.
Singers are expected to attend all rehearsals and take part in the concert at the end of each term. Please see our FAQs for more information about what’s involved in being a choir member.
